SEARCH TIPS - GRADING - CATEGORIES - ABBREVIATIONS

SEARCH INSTRUCTIONS

When you use the LETTER BUTTONS, you get ALL formats and categories
even if you choose only one from the drop menus.

USE NO PUNCTUATION:

    - Use no periods
(REM, PIL, OMD, J GEILS, SOS, OG, MR, JR, USA, UK, et al) If the initials you enter don't work, remove the space between them (DJ, KC, AB Skhy, kd lang)

In place of all other punctuation, leave a space instead:
    - Use no comma
(10 000, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Dino Desi & Billy)
    - Use no apostrophe (I ll, you re, can t, wouldn t, devil s, Santa s, L Apocalypse, N Dour)
    - Use no hyphen (1 5 Posse, 54 40)

ARTIST SEARCH

  • Firstname Lastname (John Lennon): This is the best way. It will find other albums the artist appears on, including compilations and albums by other artists.
  • Lastname Firstname (Lennon John - use no comma): Results are a little different but essentially the same as above. It might be fun to try them both.
  • Lastname only (Lennon): This will get you the most responses but there often will be some you don't need

OTHER TIPS

  • You can search the Artist, Title, Keyword box for a label name (Mercury, Bizarre, Ric Tic) or any other word that might find something of interest - like northern soul, punk or Living Stereo. Don't use any punctuation.
  • To find Quadraphonic LP's, type in the key word QUAD.
  • To find Autographed covers, type in the key word AUTOGRAPHED.
  • If you don't know an exact title, enter as much as you do know and it might still be found. Just don't use any punctuation.

GRADING / CONDITION

GRADING: Graded LP/cover. One grade only means both LP and cover are the same grade.

[On a 10-scale where 10 is Mint (M): M- = 9, VG++ (exc) = 8, VG+ = 7, VG = 6, VG- = 5…]

Our VG+ is quite acceptable to all but the strictest collectors. Records graded VG or less are
still listenable. Very rare items at G+ will at least give you a good idea of how they sound.

A (-) instead of a cover grade means there is only a plain or generic cover or sleeve.

An (*) before the grade means LP was play-graded. Usually when this is indicated, the music plays better than the surface appears (btil - better than it looks.) Occasionally, the opposite is the case (wtil - worse than it looks), and there will be light static at quiet passages and spaces between tracks. We figure it is the music that matters.

An (*) after the ( / ) in a title means the same song is on the flip side also - mainly promo singles. So far, this has not caused confusion with our other use of the (*)

To reduce abbreviation clutter, we often don't give a reason for a less-than-M- cover grade, such as ringwear (rw), writing (woc / wol), tape, cuts or holes (cc, ec, co, poh), etc. If you need to know, just ask.

CONDITION

CD's are guaranteed to play perfectly, so they are usually not graded. Any problem with the container is noted.

Cassettes and 8-track trapes - We throw out any that we consider too worn. We have priced our stock so low that we won't refund the one-in-100 you may encounter as defective. We will replace any if we have another copy. Grades for these indicate visual appearance of the shell, label and/or package.

CATEGORIZING

  • A lot of hard rock is categorized metal. It's difficult to draw the line where hard turns to metal. Besides, hard rock generally appeals to most metal fans.
  • Early Rock is basically pre-Beatles. If you're searching for a group or artist that spans this date line, you might find them under Early Rock or not.
  • Modern Rock, Prog, Psych and some others don't always mean the same thing to everyone. If you disagree, just ignore our choice or let us know what you think. Your input is always welcome.
